Abstract

This reflective viewpoint explores the experiences of a gay medical student in the Deep South and examines the persistent homophobia within medical education. The author discusses personal encounters with discrimination, the impact on LGBTQ+ medical students, and provides recommendations for creating more inclusive medical learning environments, including increasing LGBTQ+ representation, establishing allied organizations, and implementing mandatory diversity training.
